From wvandam at fau.edu Wed Jun 7 08:20:46 2017 From: wvandam at fau.edu (Willem Van Dam) Date: Wed, 7 Jun 2017 14:20:46 +0000 Subject: [List@K4FAU.org] Field Day Message-ID: Hi All, We finally received official permission to hold our Field Day on campus at Parking Garage II. I now know what papers to fill out and who to ask so next year this should be easier! First off thanks to Ron W2DO for taking the lead on securing Rehab 1 for us. Rehab 1 is scheduled to arrive at the site around 9AM. We will use this (9AM) as the kick-off of Field Day. First I need some votes on what we will do: - Are we going to run as 3A or 2A? - GOTA station? - Do we expect enough visitors to actually have a GOTA station? - If yes, who will be the control operator? We will have one station in the van and 1 or 2 stations on the 4th floor of the parking garage. Who brings what? Van: (Boca Fire Department) - Radio: W2DO (what model radio?) - Antenna 80/40: long wire that is in the van - Antenna 20/15/10: beam from T6 - Logging PC: W4RIS 1st HF in parking garage: - Radio: - Antenna 80/40: - Antenna 20/15/10: K4LEW ?? - Logging PC: W4RIS (optional) 2nd HF in parking garage: - Radio: - Antenna 80/40: - Antenna 20/15/10: - Logging PC: W4RIS Lew, will you be bringing a VHF (6/2) setup? Generator(s): I will take care of the logging laptops. For those of you who will provide radios please let me know the model number of the radio so I can try to setup RTTY and PSK on the logging laptops. We will be using N1MM Logger+. Below is a great video on how to use the software. Please take 17 minutes and have a look at the video before Field Day. http://s.fau.edu/N1MM-FD Who is planning on attending and at what times? Sjaak, W4RIS - most of FD sleep at home for a couple of hours. . . . Food and drinks...... We still have one K4FAU meeting before FD (on June 21), let's talk about food and drinks at the meeting. If you need to spend money (gas, food, drinks or supplies) please try to contact me before spending the money AND ALWAYS save the receipt! The contest kicks off at 1PM so we should have enough time to set everything up. We decided to go with 2A. Conditions have been poor lately that it is likely only 2 bands will be open at any given time, this combined with our small number of operators made us decide to go with 2A. 1st HF station will be in the Boca Firedeparment's van, parked East of Parking Garage II. Radio: Icom IC-756 - Ron, W2DO 20/15/10 Antenna: Tribander from T6 80/40 Antenna: Dipole from Van (It will have to be tuned / extended to include 80) Logging: Sjaak, W4RIS Generator: Build in to van 2nd HF station on 4th floor of Parking Garage II: Radio: Icom IC-7300 - Sjaak, W4RIS 20/15/10 Antenna: Tribander from Lew, K4LEW 80/40 Antenna: Lew, K4LEW Lew's antenna is 40M only so we should make every effort to make sure that the antenna on the van can do 80M. Logging: Sjaak, W4RIS Generator: Shirley VHF Station: Radio: Kenwood TS-60 ? 6M Antenna: Lew, K4LEW Logging: Sjaak, W4RIS PSK-31 / RTTY I will setup the 2 HF logging computers to be able to do PSK-31 and RTTY. PSK-31 and RTTY count double like CW does. I should have all the equipment to connect to Ron's IC-756 and the IC-7300 connects directly to the computer. Please let me know of any additions / changes. Message-ID: Thanks to everybody that came out to Field Day! I think we all had fun (I sure did). Special thanks to Shakeera, Lew, Gary and Bob? for hanging in there throughout the night. Did I miss anybody? What is Bob?s call? I will write a longer recap after I work on the logs and received any comments from anybody that was at FD. I always seem to have issues with setting up the logging on Friday night. Instead of grabbing loaner laptops from work I plan on having 3 dedicated logging laptops for next year so that I don?t have to spend Friday night fixing and reinstalling laptops. Setup on Saturday went pretty smooth and quick. Lew?s tri-bander, John?s vertical and the club?s G5RV worked great. Some highlights for me were the 3 youth that made contacts, RTTY and 6 meter. It was a shame I could not figure out PSK31, but I have a year to get that working. Once I go through the log and add the contacts that were logged on paper and those that were saved in the wrong location I think we will have over 470 contacts! Last year we did 293, so this is a huge improvement. Please send any photos, comments and questions to PA3GVR -at- amsat.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
